Gone are the times when photographers had to take several shots of an image and develop them to find out if a fine or even perfect image was taken. Several photographers of this art form refer to this technique as “trial and error”.

Nowadays, there are a numbers of photographers who have decided to shift from regular point and shoot and old SLR models to digital ones. Through DSLRs, they can get more time to concentrate in taking those great pictures since images that are not par with their standards can simply be deleted away.

SLR stands for Single Lens Reflex. The name implies the use of lenses and a mirror. Mirror reflects light entering the lens up into the viewfinder. Thus, a photographer can estimate how the image will likely appear when it is developed. Moreover, a SLR camera uses separate lenses that can be interchanged depending on the resolution needed. Hence, this camera can be used to capture image with varying depths.

Likewise, a digital SLR or DSLR camera uses lenses and mirror. But instead of a film that records the image, a DSLR camera uses light sensor chips and digital memory. In other words, a DSLR camera is the computerized version of the traditional SLR camera.

However, the functions of these models are rather different so it is suggested that users spend time getting familiar or acquainted with these gadgets. Owners should use that “trial and error” technique by taking a few shots and storing better pictures. Sooner or later, users can surely hack these models.

Individuals who decide on using these types of cameras should really invest on memory cards and lenses. Thus, if they happen to become professionals someday, additional equipment will surely keep them busy for choosing photography as a career.

Here are some helpful tips that will definitely aid owners of DSLR cameras in capturing a perfect image using the new art of digital photography.

      1. Normally, people take full body shots against a background. However, it is more appropriate to take a shot from shoulders up or an upper body one because image of those in the picture really appear small.

2. If doing the above technique happens to be difficult for the user, he or she can take a shot of the person with him or her at one side rather than at the center. Then the owner can just zoom in so the person appears to be at the center.

3.	The law of optics remains the same whether using an old or a digital camera. For instance, if the sun is behind an image, the picture will be silhouette. If light is in front of the image, the picture will appear squint unless there are sunglasses on.

4.	Use your sunglass to act as a polarizer to take away unnecessary reflections from glaring objects.

5.	You can also use a sunglass to increase the exposure of objects.

6.	When using a polarizer, be sure that the source of light is perpendicular to the object.

7.	Change your white balance setting from auto to cloudy when shooting bright landscapes and outdoor portraits.

8.	Do not use the flash mode when the setting is already sunny.

9.	Zoom in to emphasize a certain asset or characteristic of the subject being captured.

10.	Practice. Practice. Practice.

It suffices to say that the techniques in getting the perfect shot have not changed. However, using digital cameras and employing this new art of digital photography have simply improved photo shooting by making capturing pictures easy for everyone.

In other words, practice is what really makes perfect shots!

Brides and grooms alike are now enlisting the expertise of professionals to get the best digital wedding photography for that special occasion. And why not? They would surely want to have the best photo taken so that the memories will be preserved as long as they live.

More and more people are now shifting to the use of digital cameras to take pictures of their wedding. One of the reasons for this is that the quality is better compared to the traditional camera. Another reason is that the photos can be stored not only in their hard-bound albums but also on albums online.

Today, people are more dependent on their computers than ever before. With computers, they can easily upload their wedding pictures and share them with family and friends all over the world. You do not have to rely on snail mails just to send your pictures. They are being sent and viewed the minute you have them in your computer.

This is one of the many advantages of digital photography. If taken properly, you are assured that you and you partner will never regret having used digital photography for your wedding pictures.

Below are some of the tips to get the best digital photography for your wedding.

1. Choose the right background.

Photos can really look great once they are shot with the perfect background. You can use the decorations in the church and in the reception areas as a back draft for your photos. Be sure to fix some scattered decorations so that they will appear simply perfect on photos.

Always remind the photographer to check if the view is good when taking pictures. It does not mean that you have to stand on the same corner or place. The best photographer is able to make even the simplest of background look great on photo if it is taken in the right angle.

2. Look out for any kinds of glass.

Glasses tend to cause reflections in photos. May it be an eyeglass, window or wine glasses. One way or another, they will cause a reflection or brightness to reflect back on the camera it is included in the picture.

To avoid this, the position of the camera can be altered so that it will not directly hit the glass. The photo can be taken sideways or downwards but never on eye level.

3. The perfect timing.

Persons being photographed should not always be looking at the camera. And they do not have to be smiling at the lens too.

One way of doing it is to wait for the right moment so that you can have a candid shot at them. You will see that catching persons on film when they are in their candid state is much better than having them wearing a fixed expression. Candid moments make photos look real and natural.
4. Review each photo.

To maximize the memory that your digital camera has, it is best to review every shot taken. There might be duplicates that can be removed so that you can free more space for a different shot.

You will probably want the best and the maximum number of digital wedding photography shots so you need to make the most of the capacity of the digital camera.

The best wedding photography is made even better now with digital cameras. This is one thing that you definitely should have on your special day.

When people get sentimental, they usually flip albums and look at the pictures that depict the things that happened in their lives. These pictures are not simply pieces of colored papers with images for they can trigger deeply-seated emotions. Emotions vary depending on the memories attached to these images seen and preserved.

One of the moments that most people would really love to preserve is the tick of events on their wedding day.

For this reason, people even decide to hire professional photographers to capture the important moments of their lives. However, these photographers may not always advise the client to strike a pose. They are expected to wait patiently to be able to catch memorable portraits. Most photographers that are employed for weddings have assistants so that they can maximize their strategy in creating an album that will not regrettable.

What if you would also want to take pictures of a friend’s wedding?

Here are a few basic techniques and styles for anyone who wants to capture the said event using a digital camera:

1.	If you want to take a picture of a couple or any intended target, make sure that the background is good and the environment is not so crowded.
2.	If there is a nice background but it is hard to focus on the couple, you may shoot them from shoulder up.
3.	If some of the guests are wearing glasses, they can be advised to stand tilt their heads a little down or sideways to avoid the glaring effect that normally appears when the flash is used.
4.	If there is a couple or a group that you wish to include in the picture, you should zoom in or out of the picture.
5.	You must not shoot a couple or any guest against the light so that dark images will not appear
6.	Candid shots are also dramatic. These portraits reveal more than the quality of the picture itself. In fact, many professionals do this to capture intimate and memorable moments.
7. You should be alert at all times since you can seldom ask individuals to pose
again for you.
8. Your digital camera should be equipped with appropriate memory cards or sticks to ensure that no great moment is missed.

In other words, you have to have an extra memory card especially when you want more moments to preserve. The following suggestions should be considered before buying a memory card:

a.	for 3 mega pixels – a 256 MB memory card
b.	for 4 mega pixels – a 512 MB memory card
c.	for 6 mega pixels – 1 gigabyte memory card

9.	You are not advised to use low resolutions if the images will be displayed and
hung later.

Just always remember that the higher the resolution utilized, the larger the size of prints that can be made.

10.	Keep a copy of your best works so you can use and reuse the techniques that
made your viewers smile and appreciate your creation more.

You can do this by saving albums on your personal computer to free up the space in your memory card. You may also use other software to enhance the quality of the prints to be made.

Photography is truly a wonderful art. Wedding is a wonderful event. The union of these things will trigger emotions and memories in the long run more so if images are captured and preserved well. They all depend on your camera and your love for this art and the couple.

Once you’ve taken photos with your digital camera, you need to store them somewhere. You could always leave them on the memory card, but that would get rather expensive, so let’s explore a few other options.

1. Transfer your images onto your computer. Most cameras come with a wire to connect your camera to your computer, a CD with a downloading program and an instruction booklet. Transferring the images is fast and simple. Once they are on the computer, you can delete the images from your memory card and start taking more photos.

2. Burn your images onto a CD. If you have a CD burner on your computer, you can make photo discs to store or share with others. When it comes to pictures, it is often best to use a CD that can’t be written over. This will save the heartache of losing precious photos. Label the CD and store it where it can be gotten easily when you need to see your pictures.

3. Store your images on a public web site. There are many photo-hosting sites on the internet. Some charge for the service, but many are completely free. You have the choice to password-protect your images or share them with the world. This option helps if your computer should crash. Your pictures are safe.

4. Print your images and place them in a photo album. Many people still like turning the pages of a photo album and reviewing the memories. This also makes it possible for those without a computer to view your pictures.

5. Create a photo gift. There are places out there that will take your digital image and place in on shirts, mouse pads, cups, calendars and numerous other items. These make wonderful gifts and provide a way to keep a cherished picture near at all times.

These are just a few suggestions. Using your creativity, you will come up with many more ideas.

One of the confusing things in choosing a digital camera is deciding how many mega-pixels you should look for. The answer depends on what you plan on doing with the finished pictures.

First, you need to understand what a pixel is. In terms of digital prints, a pixel simply means a dot of color that makes up the image. A mega-pixel is equal to one million pixels. The more mega-pixels a camera has, the greater the amount of information it records.

The easiest way to decide what to look for is to know what size prints you are likely to print from your camera. A one mega-pixel camera is fine for those who don’t plan on printing photos but rather just post them on the internet. A small print, say 4 x 6, will print acceptably from this camera.

A 2 mega-pixel camera will enable you to produce good quality 5 x 7 prints and fair quality 8 x 10 prints. When you reach 4 mega-pixels you can print out excellent quality 8 x 10 prints and acceptable 11 x 17 prints and a 5 mega pixel camera will allow you to print out high quality 11 x 17 prints.

Most families find a camera in the 3.2 Mega-pixel range to be the best choice. The quality of both 5 x & and 8 X 10 prints is very good yet the files on your computer are not so large you need worry about not having enough space.

Any camera over 5 mega-pixels is unnecessary for all but professionals in photography; even then, only those who have need for poster-size prints find that many mega-pixels worth the money. Most freelance photographers find 4 or 5 mega-pixels to be sufficient for excellent-quality prints.

The choice is yours. Look to what you plan on doing with your photos and then decide. In most cases spending the money for increased optical zoom and lower mega-pixels is the best choice.

While some of the least expensive digital cameras have only automatic focus, meaning the camera does all the work on bringing your subject into the best possible focus, most SLR digitals offer three different focus modes: manual, single auto focus and continuous auto focus. All three of these will be addressed here.
With manual focus, the camera stays out of the focus equation and you, the photographer, make all the decisions regarding this. This is done by setting different buttons or actually using an attached focusing ring that rotates on the camera lens. For those who like to have complete creative control of the finished product, this is the best focus mode.
In single auto focus mode, the camera automatically focuses when you press the shutter button either all the way down to shoot a photo or half way down to lock the focus. This mode is useful when shooting static objects.
In continuous auto focus the camera continuously focuses on the objects in the photo. In this mode the camera continuously corrects the focus as the objects distance from the camera changes. This mode is useful when you shoot photos of moving objects such as a race car during a race or airplanes during an air show. You can hold the shutter button half way down and continuously move the camera to follow the object. The camera will continuously keep the object in focus.
Like any other feature automatic and manual focus modes have their pros and cons. The first step to using them to your advantage is to understand how they work and what they were designed for. The next step is to experiment shoot photos using different focus modes and different types of objects and see how the camera behaves. Once you have done that you will be ready to instinctively use the best focus mode for each photo situation.

Many people like to photograph their pets, or take pictures of animals, but if you keep fish then it can seem impossible to get a good photo of them. They are swimming through water, after all, and separated from you by the glass wall of their tank. Added to that is the problem of the dim light that may be good for fish, but does not help the camera.

There are a number of things you can do to improve your fish photographs. To begin with, opt for a digital camera rather than a film one, as it will allow you to take plenty of shots without spending a fortune on getting them all developed in order to pick out the good ones. You are photographing live animals under difficult conditions, so you should not expect every picture you take to be a masterpiece.

Using a digital camera will allow you to take as many shots as you need, and only keep the best ones. You will also find that using a tripod helps enormously. Although this might seem counter-intuitive as you will be taking pictures of moving objects, the fish are limited within the boundaries of the tank, and setting up the camera on a tripod will keep your camera steady to prevent blurring. The low light levels mean that the camera will switch to a slower shutter speed. This makes it even easier to create a blurred picture if the camera is not held steady. You will still be able to move the camera if you keep the levers of the tripod fairly loose, but your movements will be much smoother than if you do this by hand alone. Waiting for the fish to come to you rather than chasing them with the camera can also result in some great shots.

When photographing through glass it is essential to make sure it is as clean as possible. Marks and dirt, and particularly smears on the glass will show up much more in photos than to the naked eye. Give the tank a thorough clean before you begin your photography session. In order to avoid reflections in the glass you should turn off all the lights in the room. Keep an eye out for any unexpected glare, and get rid of it- light from the numbers on a digital clock, or coming through the chink of a curtain can still be enough to ruin a shot. You can always use you body or some other screen to keep light off the glass if you can’t turn it off at the source. You should also turn off the pumps in the tank, as they can stir up particles and create bubbles in the water that will show up on the photo. This will also stop any movement of plants in the tank, which could otherwise blur the shot.

In order to get the best pictures of your fish it is a good idea to set the camera up in front of the tank and leave it there for a few days, so that the fish learn to ignore it and behave naturally when you get around to actually taking some pictures.

Both professional and amateur photographers are able to make money by providing stock photos for use by businesses that need pictures for publication and the web. There are now websites (such as PhotoDaisy) which bring together photographers with clients, allowing the beginner to start profiting from their photos even before they have built up a large portfolio, and taking much of the difficulty out of finding buyers for professional photographers.

Stock photos are different from those taken on assignment, when the photographer is hired to go and get a shot of a specific subject. A stock photo is a picture that is already available when the client comes looking. Although they are usually cheaper, stock pictures generate more sales and can reach more clients than those taken on assignment. There is no provision for the costs of taking the photo though, as would be provided by a client sending a photographer out for pre-arranged pictures.

The sorts of photos that sell well as stock images will have a broad and general appeal. Photographers should think about specializing in a particular type of photography, one which fits their skills, and in which they can build up a large selection of photos. They will then be able to build up a reputation as a supplier of a certain type of images, so that clients in need of such photos will turn to them.

Photos of landscapes, gardens, food, hobby activities and technology can be good as stock material. It is important to think about the sort of clients who need stock photos, and what they will be looking for. General pictures will have a wide appeal. Gardening and home magazines may be interested in shots of plants, for example, as might florists, flower arranging groups, and anyone who wants some pretty pictures flowers to brighten up a website. Photos of major news events can also be profitable, particularly if the story is of national or global importance, but being able to get them will depend more on location and luck than getting planned shots of landscapes or other non-specific subjects.

Using a website to market your stock photos will take much of the pressure off the photographer, and allow them to spend more time actually taking the photos. This will be particularly useful for those who are less prolific, as there will be little incentive to spend long periods of time trying to sell just a handful of photos, and there will be no chance to build up a long term relationship with a particular client. Even professional photographers prefer to use websites to do this sort of work for them, as many clients will look to these rather than chasing individual photographers. Stock photography websites are more convenient for both photographer and photo buyer.

The photographer should consider how easy the website is to use, how established and well known it is with clients, and the rates they can expect for photos that they sell, before choosing which site to join.

Everybody enjoys recording special moments with a photograph, but often the picture does not live up to the actual experience. There are a number of simple tricks which can help you to take better photos.

It is important to take the time to set up your shot correctly. Many people take endless pictures that are all end up looking exactly the same, with a posed family group standing before various interchangeable backgrounds. By being a little more inventive, and trying something different, you can get much more personal photos that reveal the true nature of your subjects.

You should always be aware of what is in the background, as well as paying attention to your actual subject. You don’t want anything too distracting. Choosing a fairly plain background with one or a few colors that complement your subject will make the picture come together as a whole. If you are outside then photographing against some green vegetation, with perhaps a few brightly colored flowers can create a good portrait photo.

When you set up the shot, think about how the subject is positioned within the frame. Many people automatically try to get the subject into the center of the picture, but you can get a more pleasing result by shifting the camera so that they are placed to one side, or in the corner. This works particularly well with holiday pictures, when you want to get some of the scenery into the picture with your travel companion in the foreground. Try experimenting with different shots, and see how setting the subject off-center can change the mood of the picture.

Think about the picture as a whole. Don’t fill most of the shot with boring background. Your subject should usually fill the whole frame. Try zooming in or stepping a bit closer. Even when you think you have the perfect shot you will often find that taking another from a little bit closer in will create a stronger, more detailed picture.

Try changing the level at which you are taking the shot. Kneel down and tilt the camera up to get a shot of a tall building, or put your camera at the eye level of a child or animal. A tripod can be useful when you are setting up a planned shot rather than napping at something on the move. It will make sure the camera is held steady. Don’t get too used to keeping the tripod on the same level, however. Try adjusting the height to fit the photo you are taking, and be ready to abandon it altogether if necessary. You can always steady the camera against a hard surface such as the top of a wall or the ground. You can try turning the camera on its side to get a vertical shot. Changing the shape of your shot from long to tall will allow you to try new compositions.

Photography is all about light. Use your flash to brighten up your subject if necessary. You may need to use it outdoors, even on a sunny day, in order to get rid of shadows that are covering your subject. Remember though that you will need to be fairly close in order for the flash to light up what you are photographing.

As you set up the shot, think about what the light is doing. You will be able to do most about the lighting when you have a mobile subject, such as a person, who you can position in the best light, but you can also time your shots of landscapes to get the best light. Don’t take a photo with people squinting into bright light, but you should also remember not to position them with their backs to any strong light as they will appear much darker against it.

The best way in which you can improve your photographs is to take lots of them. You will learn more from experience than you can by reading other people’s advice. Take plenty of shots of each subject, trying different compositions and moving to new angles, and don’t be afraid to try breaking some of the “rules” of photography – a photo in which your subject is a dark silhouette against a bright sky can be very atmospheric, although it will not make a detailed portrait. It depends what you want from your photo.
